The concept of atmosphere in recent years has become a key to understand new trends in cinema and contemporary art. Videoinstallations has developed an aesthetic based, more than on the structure of a narrative inside the work, on the creation of environments aiming at the total sensorial involvement of the viewer. Spaces conceived as environmental mediums for perception: as atmospheres. The concept of atmosphere will be investigated in the relationship between contemporary art and cinema. A brief digression will follow on the “atmospheric” archaeology of video installations. The last part will be focused on two case studies on the work of the artists Daniele Puppi and Micol Assaël.
