This essay tries to draw a biographical profile of Francisco Cardozo Ayres (1822-1870), who became the first bishop of the Rosminian Order. Following his life journey from Brazil to Rome, from Italy to England, from Ireland to Brazil and then to Rome again in order to attend the 1st Vatican Council, we peep into Cardozo’s everyday life and spiritual struggles, we find out the ways he dealt with some difficult situations and we see him in the hard times of the Questão Religiosa in mid- 19 c. Brazil. Moreover, we witness his personal holiness and his discipleship at the school of life and sanctity of blessed Rosmini, whom we present here for the first time the correspondence with.
