Abstract
Forensic linguistics is the branch of applied linguistics that uses knowledge acquired through the scientific study of languages to solve legal problems. The term refers to any possible application of the scientific study of language in the legal and judicial fields. This is certainly a new type of applied linguistics, which in Italy has yet to be established. The paper tells the story of its beginnings by discussing the famous case of Unabomber.
